Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has issued a stern warning to its affiliates and clubs to be transparent and accountable when managing Fifa and Caf Covid-19 relief funds.

Nyamilandu made the remarks after announcing that Fam will distribute $1.5 million from Fifa and $300,000.00 from Caf to its stakeholders.

He demanded fiscal discipline and prudent financial management of the funds.

“My message is simple. Let us all make sure that we fully account for this money as we prepare for football restart amid the pandemic,” he said.

The Fifa Council member also clarified that Super League clubs will not access the K10 million relief package at once, saying the money will be released in instalments to each club.

Be Forward Wanderers General Secretary Victor Maunde said they will comply with Fam’s instructions.

“But we want to know the process. We haven’t been furnished with information regarding how we will access the funds and in what order. Nevertheless, we will comply with the system,” he said.

Civo Service United General Secretary Ronald Chiwaula also concurred with Maunde, saying financial prudence is what they strive to achieve as a club.

“We will give all what Fam demands but all we need to know now are details on how and when the money will be distributed. We have teams to prepare, get the players and officials tested ahead of the start of football return,” Chiwaula said.

Football is expected to fully return without supporters next month but teams will be allowed to train from October 17.
