Football Association of Malawi (Fam) is looking at the possibility of securing a home friendly match for the Malawi National Football Team, the Flames, in the next Fifa calendar dates.

The Flames have played three away friendly matches, having drawn 1-1 against hosts Tanzania at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Saturday, a month after beating Togo 1-0 and drawing 1-1 against Morocco Under-23 in Agadir City.

Fam General Secretary, Alfred Gunda, on Monday said they were looking at options of securing a home game.

“Our aim is to host a game in the next Fifa calendar date. But we have several options and we might also play an away game if we fail to secure a home game,” Gunda said.

Fam and its Lesotho counterparts have reportedly agreed to play a friendly match in Maseru on the weekend of November 11 2017, which is the next Fifa sanctioned date.

Local football commentator Andrew Chikhosi said the team’s performances have been promising.

“In the last three games, I think the team has performed well. But I think some experienced players, who are doing well, should be considered because the nation is after immediate results,” Chikhosi said.

Recently, Belgian Coach, Ronny van Geneugden, said the future of the team looks bright.

In Saturday’s match against Tanzania, veteran midfielder Robert Ng’ambi put the Flames in the lead after 35 minutes when he headed in a Richard Mbulu cross.

But the hosts equalised through Simon Msuva in controversial circumstances.

As part of preparations, the association has written Rwanda, Mozambique and Liberia football associations over the possibility of playing friendly games.
