Fam to court Zambia, Mozambique for friendly
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) will approach national teams for either Zambia or Mozambique for a friendly match.
Fam general secretary, Suzgo Nyirenda, said they were targeting Fifa dates of November 11 to 14 this year for the warm ups.
Nyirenda announced the plans on Tuesday when the association received a donation of K15 million from Airtel Malawi Limited in Blantyre.
Nyirenda said the association is waiting for a response from Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations over the Flames’ possible participation in Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup to kick-off on November 21, 2015 in Ethiopia.
“As of now it is 50-50. The Flames can go to Cecafa or not, so we need to be careful if want to secure another match before we face Guinea in March next year. We are talking to our friends in Zambia and Mozambique to see if they can allow us to play against them on such Fifa dates”. Nyirenda said.
Flames coach Ernest Mtawali, who is in a rebuilding process, has asked for more friendlies.
Malawi exited the preliminary of the World Cup when they lost to Tanzania 2-1 on goal aggregate.
