Fam transfers James Sangala’s position to Clement Kafwafwa

Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has transferred the position of Malawi national football team liaison officer from James Sangala to the Flames team manager, Clement Kafwafwa.

Fam chief executive officer, Suzgo Nyirenda, said Sangala was given the position to groom him for future challenges.

“You may wish to know that the terms of reference of a team manager and a liaison officer are similar in our case. So, we believe Kafwafwa will work better in this position because he is already our team manager,” Nyirenda said.

Meanwhile, Sangala has been given the position of youth development officer under Fam technical director, John Kaputa.

Nyirenda said the position was necessitated by the establishment of the Fifa Under-15 League, which requires his services full-time.

Kaputa said Sangala has settled down in his new position and is very reliable despite being a beginner.

“He is just unbelievable. He is excellent. Each time I am away from my office, I know that I have a pair of capable hands. For him, the sky is the limit,” Kaputa said.

He said Sangala was the ideal man for the position because of his vast experience in the game, having played for clubs in South Africa, Angola and here at home besides playing for the national team.

Sangala said he was learning a lot from Kaputa and hoped that his presence at Fam would go a long way in youth football development.

“I am happy with what I have been given. I am getting used and already enjoying working with the youth,” said the one-time Wanderers captain, who was nicknamed Shareholder because of his commitment and dedication to duty.

He stated that he was still getting the same salary and benefits as he used to when he was liaison officer.

The position of youth football development officer was last held by Charles Manda, who is coaching a club in Swaziland.
