Football Association of Malawi (Fam) hopes to finalise constructing Chiwembe Stadium perimeter fence before the start of Cosafa Under-17 Championship to run from October 11 to 20 2019 in Blantyre.
Among other venues, Fam is renovating Chilomoni Stadium, formerly MDC Stadium, earmarking it as a training venue for participating teams.
Fam Competitions and Media Director, Gomezgani Zakazaka, said contractors were working tirelessly to ensure that the brick fence is completed in time.
“We are confident that the fence will be completed very soon. We are making sure that everything that we were advised to complete should be in its place,” he said.
“So far, everything is on track and by the time we are hosting the competition, we should have the facility fit for use.”
Zakazaka also said Fam has partnered St Andrews International High School to provide three training grounds for participating teams.
Malawi won the regional title the last time they hosted the event in Blantyre and Lilongwe in 2001.
