Fama welcomes actors, filmmakers gathering
Film Association of Malawi (Fama) has described the gathering of actors, filmmakers and other players in the film industry set for Saturday at Crown Hotel in Lilongwe as a positive development.
Fama President, Ezaius Mkandawire, said Thursday that they were happy that players in the industry have decided to come together and map the way forward for the development of the industry which is still in its infancy.
“This is a bright idea and as Fama, we have welcomed it and we are looking forward to players in the industry brainstorming and sharing ideas for the growth of the film industry,” Mkandawire said.
He said the gathering will offer people involved in film to reflect on the journey they have moved up to now.
“Actually Fama will also have time to address members on the projects we have undertaken, the challenges encountered and the opportunities that are there that need to be exploited,” Mkandawire said.
He said Fama will also have an opportunity through the gathering to attract membership.
“We need more players to be part of the association so that we can walk together and do things in unity and not isolation. We have a number of projects in our tray and opportunities that up and coming filmmakers are not aware of and so this gathering is important,” Mkandawire said.
The gathering Saturday has been organised by a taskforce which has members such as Ashukile Mwakisulu, Isaac Misoya, Jevas Mchitakupha and Ian Chitsekula.
Mwakisulu said the meeting’s agenda is ‘What should be done to make the Malawi film industry move forward’.
“People are tired of moving in circles. They want things to change so that film business becomes a profitable career like in other countries,” Mwakisulu said.
