Farmer’s club pockets K3 million in FMB promotion
FMB on Friday concluded its Mlimi Asangalale promotion which saw a Phalombe based tobacco farmers’ club, Zagwazatha, going away with K3 million.
The promotion was aimed at promoting savings culture among farmers.
FMB Agriculture Business Manager, Gomezgani Kakhuta, said the bank achieved its objectives of the promotion.
Kakhuta said through the promotion, more farmers opened accounts with the bank.
“Our Makwacha account is open to all farmers and does not attract any charges when opening it. The account enables farmers to transact easily as they can access their accounts through Agora shops in their areas.
“Apart from that, once a farmer sells his or her tobacco, their proceeds go through the account hence ensuring safety of their money,” said Kakhuta.
He further said as a bank, they have also managed to generate foreign exchange through the tobacco sales.
During the draw, Chitambe Club of Limbe came out as second prize winners and went home with K1 million while Ticheze Club pocketed K500,000.
The bank also gave out K50,000, 20 cell phones and 100 FMB branded T-shirts to winners of the weekly draw.
