Farmers’ club wins FMB K3m jackpot
Zagwa Zatha, a tobacco farming club in Phalombe district, has won the K3 million jackpot which was up for grabs in the FMB Makwacha Account promotion.
The club has been a loyal customer of the bank since 2002.
Chairperson of the club, Francis Salima, described the win as a landmark boost to their business.
“We will invest the money in new equipment and inputs. We will also use part of the money to meet our household needs,” Salima said.
FMB Agriculture Business Manager, Gomezgani Kakhuta, said over 1,800 Makwacha accounts have been opened between March and August this year.
“The promotion was designed to meet the needs of farmers in the country. We know that farmers are sensitive when it comes and that is why we decided to remove opening fees for the Makwacha Account,” Kakhuta said.
Kakhuta who expressed satisfaction with the promotion which ran from March 9 and ended in August this year, says the promotion will roll out again in 2017.
