Fashion lovers sample local designs in Blantyre street show
There was excitement among people who patronised the Winter Ankara Fashion Expo at Victoria Avenue in Blantyre on Friday night as they sampled local designs.
The fashion gala broke the record as it was held in the street of Blantyre for the first time, a thing which has never happened before in the history of fashion design in the country.
According to one of the organisers, Terrence Ngulube, the event was organised to give a platform to Blantyre-based models and fashion designers to showcase their talents.
“This is the first time for Malawian designers to host a show in the streets and we are glad that we have broken the record.
Basically, we wanted to make Blantyre residents realise that creative minds exist in the city and can design any clothes of their choice without getting to spend money importing the very same abroad,” he said.
It was all colourful and attractive as most of the designs were made from locally-found materials.
“We did this so that people should appreciate clothes made from the usual materials they see,” he said.
