Fashion set to spice up Urban Music Party

The Urban Music Party (UMP) Festival grand finale will be held at BAT ground in Blantyre on Sunday where apart from performances, there will also be awards.

UMP is an initiative of Nd’efeyo Entertainment and its publicist Kimpho Loka said yesterday that this year people will experience a lot of fun with activities starting tomorrow through to Sunday.

“This is a weekend of UMP because we are starting on Friday with a DJ showdown at Bassment in Blantyre where top DJs will showcase their skills and a selected few urban artists will perform,” Loka said.

He said this year they also have a Fashion Night and Media Awards at the Game Underground Car Park in Blantyre.

“We have top fashion designers who will showcase their designs. These are collections that have the urban flavor to it, as UMP celebrates urban music and lifestyles which include fashion. This just shows that we value all the artistic fields,” he said.

Some of the designers set to showcase their designs during the Fashion Night include Alinafe Misomali, Nzika Wear, Nyalisa Wear and Chris Ngalu.

Loka also said that during the Fashion Night, there will also be performances to come from Theo Thomson, Bucci, McLuther Mambala and Pop Dogg, who is based in Ireland.

Popp Dogg is already in the country having arrived on Monday.

“The guest of honour during the event is Mayor of the City of Blantyre, Noel Chalamanda. We are thankful that the Mayor accepted to grace this occasion. The event will also be graced by UMP headliner Gemini Major and his South African Family Tree, local celebrities and models,” he said.

Loka said that the Fashion Night and Media Awards will be hosted by former Big Brother Africa representative C.O and MBC Radio 2 FM personality Juliet Royo.

The climax of the UMP is on Sunday where 12 musical awards will be presented.

Some of the UMP Awards categories this year are Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist, Producer of the Year, Music Video of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Hip Hop/Rap Act, Best Dancehall Act and Best R&B/Afro-pop Act, Best Music Video Director and Best Gospel Artist.

The nominees list was released recently and has seen artist Malinga Mafia leading the pack alongside Tay Grin and Gwamba
