Favoured Martha, Joyce Mhango Chavula decorated at Glalle

Gospel musician Favoured Martha and filmmaker and actor Joyce Mhango Chavula were among the influential women who were decorated with awards during the grand opening of Glalle Complex in Lilongwe last Sunday.

The awards were part of celebrating mothers and also recognising the role that women play in society in various disciplines including arts.

Favoured Martha collected an award in the music discipline whereas Mhango Chavula received an award in the film sector.

“Being recognised while you are still alive is something special for me. Again, it felt great, especially being recognised amongst influential women. All in all, to God be all the glory,” the artist, who also performed during the event alongside Skeffa Chimoto, Great Angels Choir and Kamuzu Barracks Gospel Singers, said.

Mhango Chavula, who has starred in many films in the country and also produced award-winning movies such as Lilongwe, said it was an honour for her to be decorated with an award.

“I am grateful to be honoured alongside powerful women and I should say thank you to the organisers for such an initiative,” she said.

Magic Promotions organised the event and its managing director Brazio Mathias Kanyong’o said women who were recognised, were selected through votes made by people through their countdown programme on PL FM and Nkhoma FM.

“It was the opening of Glalle Complex but we thought it wise to recognise women, being Mothers’ Day and also the month of October is mainly dedicated to appreciating the role that women do to the society,” Kanyong’o said.

Other notable women on the list included Speaker of Parliament Catherine Gotani Hara, who was recognised for her leadership role whereas owner of Glalle Complex Gladys Masina collected the business award with Apostle Jean Ndovie receiving the Lifetime Achiever Award.
