Favoured Martha’s double launch grosses over K1million
Gospel singer Favoured Martha real name Favoured Martha finally launched a double – a CD and DVD for her second album titled Yehova Musavomeleze starting off with Gymkhana Club in Zomba on Saturday with the climax at Robin’s Park Hall in Blantyre on Sunday.
With one assignment to go at Sheaffer ICA Marquee in Lilongwe this coming Sunday, the songstress yet again wrote another chapter in her music career as her launch at Robin’s Park pulled a mammoth audience despite having a soccer match involving Nomads and Silver Strikers at Kamuzu Stadium, a few kilometers from the venue. Gospel artists have scored marks when it comes to decorating the stageunlike secular musicians and it was the same with Favoured Martha who even went an extra gear to use equipment by Entertainers Promotions which also included smoke and light.
The singer continues to prove that she is one of the best female musicians in the country when she put up a sparkling performance backed by Groove Magic Band featuring veteran players Peter Likhomo on bass guitar, Collen Ali on lead with Joseph Tembo, who produced the album on keyboards.
The only shortfall for the singer is that she did not offer all the songs in the album. Her first entry came after Ethel Kamwendo Banda’s set where she offered three songs including from her previous album before paving way for auction which continues to be a hussle to fans as it takes away the tempo of the performances.
But being a launch, fans had to brave the auction which lasted for few minutes and saw a Mr. Muhammad of Malawi Sun Hotel, who was the guest of honour, pledging K500,000 for the CD and K500,000 for the DVD.
This was not all as wife to popular business guru Mtonga B pledged K100,000 with two other women who came on stage offering K50,000 each. There was also a pledge of K30,000 with others coming up to buy the CD at K5,000.
After the auction the singer came back in different attire and went on to offer more songs from the 10- track album with ‘Ababa Musabvomeleze,’ in which he featured Limbani Simenti dominating.
The artist, who shed tears when she was performing the song, made sure she spiced up her set with dancers as she engaged Dikamawoko Cultural Troupe to dish out traditional dances in the song ‘Ondikonda Ndinu,’ nd also GYV in another track.
“I am speechless; I am short of words with this huge turnout. I just want to say thank you to God for this because frankly speaking I thought we would have a smaller audience with a football match at Kamuzu Stadium. I am where I am today because of the people and I will continue to give them the best,” she said after the concert.
Other songs she dished from the new album include ‘Ondikonda Ndinu,’ ‘Ndine Odala,’ and ‘Uko Kumwamba.’
Currrently Musicians Union of Malawi (Mum) President Favoured Martha starred with Mwayi Kalolokesya as Favoured Sisters before going solo.
Her previous album is Ondikonda Ndili Naye. Other artists who performed on Sunday include Mlaka Maliro, Khama Khwiliro, Maggie Mangani and Grace Chinga who closed the chapter.
