FCB Nyasa Bullets Women through to Fam Championship semis

FCB Nyasa Bullets Women have booked a semifinal spot in the 2022 Fam Women’s National Championship after beating CY Sisters 4-0 at Mpira Stadium on Sunday.
This means the defending champions have nine points from three matches, three points above second-placed DD Sunshine and third-placed Destiny Academy (MDF Lionesses).
Vanessa Chikupira and Tendai Sani each scored a brace for the holders.
Bullets Women Coach Maggie Chombo-Sadik praised the players for maintaining their impressive run in the competition.
“I am really happy with the performance of the team. The players are determined to defend the championship,’’ she said.
The battle for the remaining slot in Group B will be between Sunshine and Destiny, who will meet in the last match at Civo Stadium on Saturday.
The winner will join Bullets Women, who will travel to Mzuzu to face Topik at Mzuzu Stadium in a ceremonial match.
Both Destiny and Sunshine lost to Bullets Women.
Sunshine Assistant Coach Shadreck Chikhosi said the players will not go down without a fight.
“This is a must-win match for us and the players are ready for the big challenge,” Chikhosi said.
Interestingly, Sunshine lost 4-0 to Destiny in the regional play-offs.
On his part, Destiny Coach Yohane Fulaye said his troops are in form following back-to-back victories in Mzuzu recently.
“We cannot afford to lose this match. We have big ambitions this year and we will achieve them,’’ Fulaye said.
Group B is still wide open as three teams are still in contention for a place in the semifinals.
Leaders Ascent Academy and second-placed Ntopwa are separated by goal difference as they have seven points each from three matches.
For the first time, 10 teams are taking part in the competition. Two teams from each group will qualify for the semifinals.
