All roads in Kasungu District lead to Kasungu Stadium which will host semifinal and final matches of the First Capital Bank (FCB) Under-20 National Youth Football League slated for Friday and Saturday.

The day will start with Southern Region’s Chinamwali meeting Chigwere of Kasungu before a showdown between Northern Region side MK Academy and Central Region giants Silver Strikers Youth.

Speaking in Blantyre on Wednesday during the presentation of jerseys to the semifinalists, FCB Head of Marketing Twikale Chirwa expressed delight with progress of the competition.

“Our main aim is to unearth young talent and we are pleased that this continues to be achieved. The competition acts as a bridge for youngsters to elite football. We therefore wish to thank organisers and all stakeholders for supporting us in this course,” Chirwa said.

National Youth Football Association (NYFA) General Secretary James Sawerengera said it was exciting that three of the four teams to play today are new at this stage.

“It is only Silver who are not new at this stage. But the other teams have made it this far for the first time. This is a motivation to other teams that did not make it this far that they can also do it next time,” Sawerengera said.

The league, which attracted 181 teams from 14 districts, started from district and regional qualifiers where outstanding teams managed to make it to the national stage.

Teams at this stage are expected to pocket more in terms of prizes as FCB hiked this year’s sponsorship from K35 million to K40 million.
