FDH Bank has officially opened its Balaka service centre as part of efforts to improve service delivery and enhance financial inclusion.

Before the centre opened, the bank was operating from a post office as Malawi Savings Bank (MSB).

Fund Mzama, Director of Bank Supervision at the Reserve Bank of Malawi and also guest of honor at the event, officially opened the branch. He said banks have an important role to play in serving their clients with utmost care and professionalism.

“We are very happy about this because more people will have access to banking services. Banks should satisfy their customers by giving them the services they need,” Mzama said.

He added that competition between banks is good for the banking sector as it ensures that the financial institutions operate at their best to give the customers, especially those in remote areas, the services that work for them.

The bank recently had its first draw in the Mchikumbe Akolore promotion draw which saw 10 account holders winning K50,000 and 25 account holders winning bags of fertilisers and other consolation prizes.

According to FDH Head of Personal and Business Banking, Kawawa Msapato, the competition is focused on reaching out to farmers and will run for three months.

FDH Managing Director, Eric Ouatarra, said that the bank will continue to work on interventions to improve service delivery.

“This is not just about opening new branches, but rather giving these customers a proper branch to operate in. We made a commitment to improve our services with the acquisition of MSB and that is exactly what we are doing,” Ouatarra said.

He further said the FDH cashless digital platform is the best in the country and can be used by everyone, regardless of having an FDH Bank account or not.

The bank also donated a cheque worth K2 million to Balaka District Hospital as part of its social corporate responsibility.
