Malawi National Football Team sponsors, FDH Bank plc, have given Football Association of Malawi (Fam) a huge boost after committing to continue bankrolling the Flames.
FDH Group Head of Marketing and Communication Levie Nkunika confirmed that negotiations with Fam on the continued sponsorship for the Flames have been concluded.
“We will be renewing the contract, which dates back to 2016. FDH Bank is committed to working together with Fam to realise the full potential of Malawi football. Our bank stands for making growth possible for our customers and stakeholders including communities under which football development falls. The bank supports the vision of Fam to make the Flames Africa’s football powerhouse,” he said.
Fam General Secretary Alfred Gunda said they engaged FDH before the expiry of the current contract, which ends this year.
“We have been in talks with FDH to renew the contract. So far, things are looking nice as the sponsorship will be renewed for the third time,” he said.
FDH started sponsoring the Flames in 2016 with K30 million annually amid sponsorship drought. The bank then raised the sponsorship package by doubling it to K60 million in 2019.
Currently, FDH pumps K180 million for three years into the Flames and K360 million annually into the Fam FDH Bank Cup which is the most lucrative football cup in Malawi with the winning team taking home K25 million as prize money.
The bank also supports mayors’ trophies and inter-city mayors trophy for netball and football for primary schools.
