FDH Bank sponsorship hits K120 million

By Isaac Salima:
FDH Bank has announced an increase in sponsorship for FDH Bank Cup from K90 million to K120 million for the 2023 season.
Announcing the news Friday at Mpira Village in Chiwembe, Blantyre, FDH Bank’s Senior Marketing Manager Ronald Chimchere said champions will now be carting home K30 million from K25 million.
The increase will also see regional champions getting K700,000 from K500,000 with individual player awards getting a 50 percent hike from K200,000 to K300,000.
Media individual awards have also been hiked from K100,000 to K200,000.
Chimchere expressed hope that the increase will enhance competition in the league.
“After looking at the economic situation in the country we felt the need to hike the amount. We expect to see an improved level of competitiveness and to bring in new talent,” Chimchere.
Football Association of Malawi General Secretary Alfred Gunda said the gesture reaffirms the bank’s commitment to develop football in the country.
“We understand that the economic situation has not been favourable to most companies and institutions. So despite all the challenges the bank has considered us with the increase in sponsorship. We are also grateful that the increase has tackled all areas,” Gunda said.
He said that they will soon come up with a revised calendar to see when the competition will begin.
FDH, who are official sponsors of the Malawi National Team, have been sponsoring FDH Bank Cup for the past two seasons.
Silver Strikers won the inaugural season before FCB Nyasa Bullets did it last year after beating their reserve team.
