FDH Cup rolls to life

By Llywellenie Mpasa:
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) and FDH Bank on Sunday officially launched the 2021 FDH Bank Cup national competition at Balaka Stadium.
The Cup is hosting 62 Premier League and Regional Premier Division League teams from all the regions of Malawi, with teams now scuffling out in the national knock-out stage.
Speaking at the national knock-out launch, Head of Personal and Business Banking at FDH Kawawa Nsapato said they hope to develop talent through competition.
“We want to put forward a platform where grassroots football can thrive; to continue identifying and developing talents that may sustain the successes of Malawi national football triumph,” Nsapato said.
Fam Vice President and Head of Competitions Jabba Alide said they were prepared to make the cup a violence-free competition.
“We have put in place mechanisms to make sure that issues that spoil games are avoided. Violence not only destroys the image of the game but also the image of Fam and other football stakeholders,” Alide said
During the launch on Sunday, Mighty Wanderers Reserve defeated Chinamwali FC 4-2 on post-match penalties.
Junior M’bawa and Lazarus Banda for Chinamwali missed their penalties to ensure Wanderers reserved a ticket to the next round.
