FDH supports bankers meet

By Lazarus Nedi:
FDH Bank on Tuesday gave K1.5 million to Institute of Bankers (IoB) in Malawi as a contribution towards hosting of the organisation’s annual lake conference.
The three-day conference will start on August 29 at Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi District.
Speaking after presenting a cheque, FDH Head of Personal and Business Banking, Kawawa Msapato, said the bank valued the indaba as a platform for knowledge-sharing among professionals.
“This year’s theme is ‘Financial Sector Synergies: A Catalyst for Financial Inclusion Reloaded’, a topic that fosters nothing but growth for the banking sector,” Msapato said.
He said the bank took keen interest in financial inclusion as its business strategy points at inclusive banking for all Malawians.
IoB Chief Executive Officer, Lyness Nkungula, thanked FDH Bank for the support.
She said the institute’s aspiration in hosting this year’s conference augers well the bank’s ambitions of bringing the majority of the unbanked masses on the banking board.
“I need to commend the banks because most of them have lower end products that are without frills mainly to cater for people that are financially excluded but are engaging in economic activities that earn them something,” Nkungula said.
She said this year’s theme was chosen in consideration of the fact that, although the country’s financial sector has shown commitment in the drive for financial inclusion, a lot needs to be done.
