Malawi National Football Team official sponsor, FDH Bank, has pledged to open investment accounts for 30 Flames players if they beat Uganda in an Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) Group B qualifier tomorrow.

Flames must beat the Cranes at Kamuzu Stadium to qualify for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations finals for the third time.

“The official sponsor and number one supporter of the Flames FDH has committed to spoil the team if they win their crucial game against Uganda on Monday. FDH will open investment accounts for the 30 squad players at First Discount House and deposit K100, 000 in the individual accounts. This is a very crucial moment for Malawian football as winning this game means qualification for Afcon,” said FDH Group Head of Marketing and Communication Levie Nkunika.

“We hope the boys will leverage on this initial deposit and build solid investment portfolios. We are aware most of the players in the squad play professional football and this is a perfect vehicle to invest for the future.” FDH is the official sponsor of Football Association of Malawi (Fam) with K60 million annually for the National team and K90 million for FDH Bank Cup. Fam President Walter Nyamilandu said it was a welcome development as the Flames needed motivation to sail through. It is a timely boost for the Flames. The players are aware and extremely happy. FDH has indeed shown that they are genuine sponsor for the side,” he said.

The development comes after Capital Oil Refining Industries (Cori) also pledged K5 million if the team qualifies for Afcon.
