Federalist Fred Msiska attacked

Unknown thugs on Tuesday night stormed one of the premises of an advocate for federal system of government, Professor Fred Msiska, breaking into two vehicles.

However, Msiska suspects the robbery is linked to his campaign for the change of system of government.

He said that two weeks ago, another federalist, Ipyana Nthakomwa, was also attacked and told to warn him [Msiska] that he is the next victim.

“The thugs came at around 2 am. They jumped the brick wall fence into my premises. They have broken my [Mercedes] Benz and Toyota Vits [which is] used by my wife. Apart from an assumption that these might be the ordinary thugs, I suspect politics.

“Let me remind Malawians that some time back, we were sent death threats. This was a letter which was stopping us from advocating federalism. I challenged that I will not be intimidated. Two weeks ago, our fellow member was attacked and openly told to warn me because they know where I stay,” he said.

He then said cases of thugs have increased since 2014, adding others are connected to regimes.

He said such cases are difficult to handle positively; hence, innocent Malawians are suffering in silence.

However, Mzuzu Police Deputy Publicist, Cecelia Mfune, said her office is not aware of the incident.

However, Msiska said the police visited his premises in the morning hours of Wednesday and take statements. He then said the police have assured him that they would finish investigations within seven days.

Recently, unknown thugs broke into an office of a political commentator and researcher, Boniface Dulani, and Public Affairs Committee (Pac) Spokesperson, Peter Mulomole.
