Female artists in the country through the Musicians Union of Malawi (Mum) Women’s Desk have teamed up to go on a Galz tour.
The Galz tour will kick off in the Eastern Region tomorrow at Pa Jokala Lodge in Zomba.
The team of performers at the event includes Martha Mituka, Anna Chimtengo, Rachel Nyirenda, Farai Chazima, Tamanyawaka, Ruth K Gondwe and Tamia.
There are also two bands namely Precious and Krazy Colours.
Zomba-based artist Liz BK, whose real name is Elizabeth Kadyamphungo, said that the show will be hosted by renowned dancer and master of ceremony Jane Anjije Kachepatsonga.
“We would like to prove that ladies on their own have the capability to manage music shows and also provide entertainment to fans not only here in Malawi but we will also be going abroad,” Liz BK said.
She indicated that the show will be a phungwe.
“As you know the event will be extended to other places and that will need more finances, we therefore appeal to sponsors to help us,” Liz BK said.
She said the shows will be special in that people will see both gospel and secular musicians coming together and sharing the stage.
Mum Women’s chairperson, Martha Mituka, said they have started with Zomba but will tour other places as well as part of promoting female artists but also taking part in the 50/50 campaign.
“We want women to be visible and show their potential. And as we prepare for Mum elections later this year, we want women to at least get three positions in the national executive,” Mituka said.
