Female bodybuilder in South Africa for show

By Mphatso Malidadi:

The country’s first-ever female bodybuilder, Doreen Dee Kumbatira, is scheduled to compete at the Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic show in South Africa today.

This is the second time for Kumbatira to compete in South Africa, where she finished on position five during the Gentle Giant competition in October last year.

The Malawian would compete in the Women’s Bikini Fitness in a contest divided into categories depending on weight, height and age.

“This is a top body-building show and I am excited to be part of it. It is a highly competitive show with bodybuilders from all over Africa and beyond,” Kumbatira said before departure on Wednesday.

She said her target was to get a Professional Card which could make her eligible for other bigger events.

“Gentle Giants is mostly competed at a continental level while the Arnold Schwarzenegger competition is a world class event which brings in athletes from all over the world. I am better prepared this time.

“I did not rest after competing in the Gentle Giants show knowing that I had qualified for a more competitive show. I upped my game and engaged an extra gear. I even engaged a personal trainer from South Africa who has been giving me valuable tips. This has helped me to build my confidence,” Kumbatira said.
