Female pugilist to bounce back

One of the country’s budding female pugilist, Ruth Chisale, has announced plans to return into the ring this year after a three year break.

“I was attending to personal issues which kept me out of the ring. I can’t go into details but they were pressing family issues which forced me to break. However, plans are underway that I should fight in August,” the 23 year-old boxer said.

She said full details of the fight would be announced in due course by the promoter.

Chisale last fought on December 30, 2017 when she lost to Zambian Lolita Muzeya at Government Complex in Lusaka during a disputed World Boxing Council silver welterweight.

“I still vividly recall that fight. I was supposed to win but I was robbed of victory. I was not surprised that WBC made that ruling denying Lolita the belt,” she said.

Chisale has 10 wins including six knockouts and a defeat.

Local matchmaker, Steve ‘Mawenzi’ Msiska, said Chisale needs at least two fights to vie for reputable belts.

“She is a good boxer with an incredible record. The good thing is that she has been training all this while. She is one of the boxers in the country that can win any belt in the world,” he said.
