Film Association of Malawi elections set for this month

Film Association of Malawi (Fama) is expected to hold its elections on June 19, current president Ezaius Mkandawire has confirmed.
Having served Fama for some time, Mkandawire said he is bowing out and that he is not interested in contesting for the presidency again.
“Let others serve the association, I have done my part and for now let me bow out,” Mkandawire said.
He said if all goes according to plan, the elections would be held at Copyright Society of Malawi (Cosoma) offices in Lilongwe.
Mkandawire has said that Ashukile Mwakisulu from Blantyre is contesting for presidency alongside Gift Sukez Sukali from Lilongwe.
He also said that, for the position of vice president, the names of those contesting include Flora Suya.
Meanwhile, Mkandawire has also spoken on the continued lack of investment in the creative industry as observed in the budget presented by Finance Minister Felix Mlusu recently.
“Once again, the budget does not have a vote. It is the same old song and it is like the creative sector is nothing.
“We don’t know when the creative sector will be considered. There must be a relook into this otherwise there is no investment to grow the creative industry,” the Fama president said.
