By Grecium Gama:

Filmmaker Sam Majamanda has challenged up-and-coming filmmakers and actors to participate in competitions such as short-film festivals to nurture their careers.

Majamanda said this during a three-day training workshop on film production and marketing which Twilight Film Company organised for youths from Zomba, Phalombe and Mulanje districts.

“Strive for quality, do not be in a hurry and, most importantly, target international competitions. Participating in festivals and events that culminate in awards gives you a chance to measure yourself,” Majamanda said.

One of the participants, Grace Naweni, who is patron for New Dawn Arts Theatre, hailed Majamamba for giving them an insight into filmmaking.

“Some of the things he highlighted were new and, now, we are not the same. We will go out there and tell better stories.

“We will also strive for quality,” Naweni said.

Majamanda last year participated in the Focus on Ability Film Festival, where his short movie did well.
