Female writer Diana Satha is all smiles since she has finalised her first book My Father’s Son to be out next month.

With writers in the country struggling to publish their works, Satha said the book will be out on June 23.

She said that she started writing the book when she was 21 in 2007.

“This is a story about two lovers whose parents are against the relationship. There is actually a lot that is in there, I mean why their parents are against the relationship. It’s been a long journey into this but I believe people will love the work,” she said.

The Lilongwe-based writer, who has also been participating in some of Malawi Writers Union (Mawu) competitions, said this was the beginning of more books by her.

Satha could not be drawn to say how much she had spent to publish the book.

“All I can say is I have spent a lot. Actually, when I first wrote it, I had no laptop, so I had to borrow and that brought in costs as well. Some chapters were lost on the way and I had to start from scratch. At the moment, the book is still with the publishers but all is well and we are ready to go,” she said.

A lot has been said about female writers not being aggressive but Satha indicated that there were a lot of female writers on the ground but the biggest challenge was to get publishers.

“As I have said, I am very excited because people will get to see the serious side of me. Again, this is my first novel but hopefully not the only one,” Satha said.
