Financial dealers to discuss BoP trends

The country’s dealers from the capital, money, and commodity markets start meeting in Mangochi today for the 2020 Financial Market Dealers (Fimda) annual conference under the theme ‘Unleashing Malawi’s Potential Amidst Rising Negative Balance of Payments’. The meeting comes at a time the country’s balance of payments position has been seriously hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Fimda President Patricia Hamisi said Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) Governor Wilson Banda is expected to be the keynote speaker during the conference.
“Then through a panel discussion they will have a chance sharing different views on how, as financial market players, they can chip in to address this problem,” Hamisi said.
She observed that they had invited experts from the export market, financial markets, an economist and policy makers so that the dealers could have diverse views and solutions.
During the conference, Fimda will also usher in new leaders to stir the operations of the grouping moving into the future.
Other speakers who will make presentations during the conference include Export Development Fund Chairperson Neil Nyirongo, RBM Director of Financial Markets Ralph Tseka and MyBucks Banking Corporation Head of Trade Financing Tasokwa Mchawe.
