Finesse chess tourney on
Southern Region Chess League is expected to hold the third edition of Finesse Schools Chess at Jacaranda Secondary School in Blantyre tomorrow.
Chess in Schools Coordinator, Maggie Ngugama, said preparations for the tournament were at an advanced stage.
“Students will play seven rounds in four categories. All seniors will play as school teams, with four students per team while juniors are going to play individual games. This is a way of promoting the establishment of chess clubs in schools,” she said.
Ngugama said they were expecting 30 schools to register for the competition.
“This will translate to about 150 students. We are quite impressed with schools, from outside Blantyre, that have confirmed participation in the tournament, and they include Luchenza, Mangochi Select and Domasi,” she said.
International Arbiter, Gilton Mkumbwa, sponsors the competition which is scheduled for the first term of each academic year.
