Fire guts Chanco’s Faculty of Law

Fire gutted part of Chancellor College (Chanco)’s Faculty of Law building in Zomba yesterday.
An eyewitness, Lapken Pagone, said they first spotted the fire at around 4 o’clock in the afternoon and called students to help put it out.
Zomba City Fire Brigade officers, assisted by students, managed to douse the fire, according to Chanco Vice- Principal, Professor Samson Sajidu, who also disclosed that almost 90 percent of items were rescued.
“Let me commend students who helped us to rescue much of the items in the library where the fire started. We managed to rescue almost everything that was there, only that the roof of the building has totally been damaged,” Sajidu said.
Zomba Police spokesperson, Patricia Supliano, was not available to comment on the matter.
The fire at Chanco comes barely days after a raging inferno gutted a hostel at The Polytechnic in Blantyre.
A few weeks ago, fire also destroyed Blantyre Market and part of Mangochi District Hospital
