Fierce fire razed down a two storey sisters’ Convent at Mlambe Hospital in Blantyre on Friday.
According to Sister Mary Chimalizeni, who is the provincial Superior of the Daughters of Wisdom in Malawi, the fire started from one of the rooms at around 7:30 AM and spread to the rest of the rooms, destroying property and the building in the process.
“We cannot quantify the damage but we can precisely tell that two laptops and six cell phones have been destroyed by the inferno in addition to property belonging to the Sisters,” said Sister Chimalizeni.
She said services at the hospital would not be affected by the fire.
“I can confirm that no one has been hurt by the fire and our patients will not be affected in any way,” Chimalizeni said.
Part of the two storey building was not affected after fire brigade, the police and other hospital staff put it out.
Mlambe Hospital is used as a private referral hospital in Blantyre and acts as an alternative to the highly congested government run Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital
