Fire guts down Kasungu market

Fierce fire has gutted down Kasungu market destroying goods worth millions of kwacha.

The development comes barely a month after fire also burnt down part of the market behind Kasungu National Bank.

Kasungu Police public relations officer, Edwin Kaunda and Kasungu Municipal Deputy Mayor, Ephate Joshua confirmed in separate interviews that the fire started around midnight on Saturday.

According to Joshua, the municipality and concerned stakeholders have since formed a task force comprising vendors and executive officers of the council to establish the cause of the fire and also assess the damages.

A few days ago, Area 18 market in Lilongwe also caught fire and vendors plying their trade lost goods worth millions of kwacha.
