Fire gutted down Malawi Telecommunications Limited (MTL) offices at Area 3, Lilongwe, last evening destroying equipment for most broadcasting stations in the country.
Lilongwe fire officer, Gideon Mwanza, who was at the scene where his team tried to put out the fire, described the damage as severe. The cause of the fire is unknown.
“We are still assessing the situation. The situation is very bad,” Mwanza said.
Lilongwe Police spokesperson, Joseph Kachikho, yesterday said they were yet to get a report on the incident.
Of late, the country has registered an increase in fire accidents.
