Nigerian singer Fireboy DML real name Adedamola Adefolahan, jetted into the country on Monday through Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe ahead of his performance at Sound and Light Shandie Launch Concert by Castel on Saturday at Blantyre Sports Club.
Speaking on arrival, the artist, who will be performing in the country for the first time, said he was looking forward to giving people a lively and electric set.
“Honestly, I am looking forward to having fun, not just to perform, but connect with the fans and engage them. That is more important to me,” the singer, who is signed to YBNL Nation, a record label founded by Nigerian rapper Olamide, said.
With a debut album Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps released in 2019, Fireboy DML describes his sound as afro-life and said he writes songs that audiences can relate to.
In 2020, Fireboy DML’s songs were included in the Fifa 21 game soundtrack.
Team Entertainers Director Tonderai Banda said they were excited that Fireboy is here.
“His early arrival is a testimony of how serious we are with this concert. He has come in early to rehearse with the band in Lilongwe because he is performing live and, so, he will have all that time. Again, he has a media tour in Lilongwe,” Tonderai said.
He also said his early arrival is for the artist to appreciate the beauty of Malawi – the Warm Heart of Africa- and for people to see him ahead of his performance in Blantyre.
Tonderai described the concert as “big” for the country and Blantyre.
“Blantyre has not had a big show and it is my hope that people will embrace it by coming in large numbers. I am doing this concert together with a new partner DJ Thi from Canada,” he said.
Fireboy DML, who will be in Blantyre on Thursday, is set to share the stage with artists such as Onesimus and Piksy.
Meanwhile, Castel Malawi Head of Marketing Twikale Chirwa has said they are delighted that their customers and consumers will have the Shandie-product-experience with the artist who has a good following in the country.
“This is the official launch of Shandie lemon, which is a flavoured beer in the market and, as such, we would like to give our consumers the Shandie -brand-experience which is fun, refreshment and flavour under the tagline “live your life”,” Chirwa said.
He said Entertainers Promotions is their official event manager based on their experience in managing music events.
“Shandie is a flavoured beer and it is derived from the word Shandy. It is light and refreshing,” Chirwa said.
