First Capital Bank (FCB) has donated K5 million to the Football Association of Malawi (Fam) resource mobilisation taskforce for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals.
The bank’s chief executive officer Jaco Viljoen said they felt duty-bound to assist the taskforce ahead of the Ipatse Moto Golf Tournament scheduled for Lilongwe Golf Club on October 2.
“We have made the donation considering the long-term relationship we have with Fam. We also support the Under-20 league, which has produced a lot of players for national teams as well as Super League teams.
“Some of these stars played a key role in the Flames’ qualification for the Afcon finals. We are therefore happy to contribute towards the senior national team’s preparations for the continental showpiece,” Viljoen said.
He said qualifying for the Afcon finals was a unique achievement, hence the bank’s support towards the fundraising initiative to equip the Flames.
Taskforce Chairperson Jabber Alide, who is also Fam First Vice-President, hailed FCB for showing commitment towards the cause.
“We are very grateful to FCB for this support. We do not take it for granted. The K5 million will go a long way in meeting our K30 million target at the fundraising golf event,” Alide said.
