Fisd Wizards survival chances slim

Fisd Wizards’ technical director, Peter Mponda, has conceded that their survival in the TNM Super League is no longer in their hands.

Wizards’ relegation fears deepened following a 1-0 loss to Azam Tigers at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday when Bright Munthali volleyed in on the 55th minute.

Mponda said their hope is now that other relegation candidates should falter as the season draws to a close.

“We have made this hard for ourselves. We needed to get all the three points against Tigers so that we should increase our chances of hitting the 30-point mark which we targeted,” Mponda said.

“Now that we can’t reach it, we just need to get all the remaining nine points. We will also depend on the other teams to beat the teams that are in this relegation battle. Even if we win all our remaining matches, and the other teams also win their matches, it may not be enough to save ourselves.”

Wizards are still bottom of the table with 21 points from 25 matches. The rookies are eight points away from safety and meet Be Forward Wanderers, Big Bullets and Blue Eagles to wrap up the season.

Epac also blew their chances of getting out of the relegation zone after getting one point from their two assignments in Mzuzu at the weekend.

Epac held Moyale to a goalless draw on Saturday before losing 2-1 against Mzuni on Sunday.

Mzuni’s resurrection has now seen them climb to 11th position with 29 points from 25 matches.

Dedza Young Soccer went down 2-0 against Wanderers at their own backyard on Sunday to remain on position 12 with 26 points from 26 matches.

Dedza are a point clear of Airborne Rangers that were battered 3-0 by Red Lions on Saturday.
