Fisp coupons distribution finalised—Joseph Mwanamvekha
Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development, Joseph Mwanamvekha, yesterday said his ministry has finalised the distribution of coupons for the Farm Inputs Subsidy Programme (Fisp) in all the 28 districts.
Mwanamvekha, speaking during a press conference in Lilongwe, said, as of last Monday, all the beneficiaries had received their coupons.
“We are anticipating that buying of inputs by the beneficiaries should be concluded by month end; this is a very ambitious target but, as a ministry, we want to work towards achieving that,” Mwanamvekha said.
With regard to fertiliser quality control, he said his ministry is in the process of testing the fertiliser that is going to the market to ensure that it is of the right quality.
Fisp was introduced 12 years ago with the aim of assisting poor smallholder farmers in the country.
