Flames 3 steps down

Malawi National Football Team the Flames have, due to inactivity, climbed down from position 100 to 103 on the November Fifa/Coca-Cola World Ranking released on Thursday.

Malawi is ranked 23rd in Africa and sixth in Southern Africa out of 54 and 14 national football teams, respectively, according to www.fifa.com.

South Africa’s Bafana Bafana are ranked 60th in the world, ninth in Africa and number one in Southern Africa.

Senegal, who are ranked 33rd in the world, are Africa’s number one team followed by Cote d’Ivoire and third-placed Tunisia.

The Elephants and the Carthage Eagles are on position 34 and 35, respectively, on the world table followed by Egypt, who are fourth in Africa and 36th in the world.

The Pharaohs are two places ahead of Algeria. The Desert Foxes are 38th in the world.

Overall, Argentina remain the world’s best national football team followed by Germany, Chile (third), Belgium (fourth) and Colombia (fifth).

Fifa’s website explained the reason behind the movement on the ranking.

“There has been plenty of movement in the latest edition of the Fifa/Coca-Cola World Ranking thanks largely to the 63 Fifa World Cup Russia qualification matches played, but also to 71 other qualifiers and international friendlies that took place over the past few weeks,” reads the website in part.
