Flames begin Afcon campaign against South Sudan

Malawi national football team will kick-start the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) Group B campaign against South Sudan next month.
South Sudan joined Group B after eliminating Seychelles 3-1 on aggregate. The Flames, alongside Uganda and Burkina Faso, were seeded from the preliminary round due to their better Fifa rankings.
Football Association of Malawi announced Monday that the Flames would start at home against South Sudan before playing away in Uganda’s capital Kampala between November 11 and 19 this year.
The Flames would then face Burkina Faso in back-to-back home-and-away fixtures between August 31 and September 8, 2020.
In October next year, the Flames will travel to South Sudan before their last group match against Uganda at home the following month.
Malawi warmed up for the qualifiers with a 1-1 draw against Lesotho at Sesotho Stadium in Maseru on Sunday.
Lesotho scored through Hlompho Kalake before Hassan Kajoke pulled level with two minutes to full time after seeing his penalty saved earlier.
Likuena featured local-based players during the match in preparation for an African Nations Championship match against Zimbabwe on Sunday.
