Flames die fighting in Cairo
Coach Young Chimodzi was yesterday given a perfect gauge of his charges’ clout ahead of this Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Zimbabwe.
The Flames died fighting as they went down 1-2 to Egypt in an international friendly played at Borg Arab Stadium in Cairo.
Coming from Cosafa Cup in South Africa where the Flames won the Plate section after beating Zambia and South Africa, the loss to Egypt jolted coach Chimodzi as he searches the right formular for defeating Zimbabwe Warriors at Kamuzu Stadium this Saturday.
The hosts needed just 19 minutes to take a lead through Ahmed Hassan Mekki, who capitalised on poor defending from Malawi to score the opener.
At half time the scores were at 1-0 but the hosts added another one just two minutes after recess through Mohamed ‘Dodo’ ElGabas.
But Malawi pulled one back in the 63rd minute through Atusaye Nyondo who connected from a set piece.
The international game was live-streamed on footballschedule.tv.
