Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has disclosed that VIP tickets for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier between Malawi and Ethiopia have been sold out.
The Flames will play Ethiopia at Bingu National Stadium on Sunday before travelling to Guinea for a second match four days later.
Fam Commercial and Marketing Director Limbani Matola said Tuesday that the tickets are on high demand in all the designated places.
“Tickets for VIP tickets are almost sold out and this is the first of its kind. The Corporate boxes are over booked and we are busy trying to finalise allocations,” he said.
However, Matola could not disclose how many tickets have been sold ahead of the match.
Advance tickets for VIP are selling at K8,000 and K10,000 on the match day, whereas Corporate seats are selling at K10,000 and K15,000 on match day.
The standard tickets are going at K2,000 and will be sold at K3,000 on match day.
Ahead of the match, the association came up with several initiatives to woo supporters.
Fam entered into an arrangement with Malawi Schools Sports Association (Massa) and Ministry of Education to have 2,000 learners from both primary and secondary schools in uniforms to watch the match.
“This is a deliberate move as we want to expose them and give them international experience. We understand that they are also Flames fans,’’ Matola said.
Meanwhile, Matola has disclosed that there is also huge demand for the Flames replica kits.
Lilongwe-based fan Massa Chikhawo said he was ready to support the Flames this Sunday.
“The Flames deserve our support and we will paint the stadium red,” he said.
