Flames players get PSL game time

Malawi national football team players got rare runs during South Africa Absa Premiership matches played over the weekend, but most of them were on the losing end.

Striker Frank Gabadinho Mhango was in the starting line-up as his Bloemfontein Celtic lost 2-1to Chippa United in Port Elizabeth on Friday night.

Gabadinho played for 37 minutes in which his efforts included hitting the post from a free-kick. Mhango.was substituted for Lerato Lamola minutes before break.

Celtic’s Vuyani Ntanga’s opener was cancelled out by William Twala before Buyani Sali got the winner for Chippa. Celtic are seventh on 16 points from 12 games, at par on points with eighth-placed Chippa.

In another game, veteran Esau Kanyenda came in the 73rd minute but could not save Polokwane City from losing 1-0 to Golden Arrows on Saturday in Durban.

A solitary goal by Mwape Musonda was enough to hand Arrows the win over Polokwane at the Chatsworth Stadium.

Arrows moved up to the sixth spot on the log with 17 points while Polokwane are placed 11th with 12 points.

On the same day Micium Mhone played his first full game for Jomo Cosmos as they lost 1-0 to Free State Stars.

Still on Saturday, Flames defender marshalled Mpumalanga Black Aces defence as they went second after edging out Ajax Cape Town 1-0 at Mbombela Stadium, where Collins Mbesuma scored.
