Flames regroup

Malawi National Football Team, the Flames, regrouped in Blantyre on Monday in preparation for next week’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon qualifier against Swaziland.

All 19 home-based players reported at Mpira Village in Chiwembe Township ahead of the September 4 match at Kamuzu Stadium.

Moyale Barracks FC striker Gastin Simkonda, Be Forward Wanderers goalkeeper, Richard Chipuwa and Silver Strikers’ defender Lucky Malata are the notable players making a comeback to the squad following months of absence.

Foreign-based players such as Robert Ng’ambi, Limbikani Mzava and John Banda will join the team from next Monday, www.fam.mw reported yesterday.

Under caretaker coach, Nsanzurwimo Ramadhan, the Flames are looking for their first win in Group L. Malawi has two points from five games. Zimbabwe already qualified from the group.

Swaziland coach, Harris Bulungu, told The Daily Times in a telephone interview on Monday that he was yet to get a clear picture of the preparations as they have just regrouped.
