Flames to leave for Cosafa on June 22
Malawi National Football Team will leave for Cosafa Castle Cup in South Africa next Thursday, Football Association of Malawi (Fam) General Secretary, Alfred Gunda, has confirmed.
He added that the Flames Coach, Ronny van Geneugden, has since released some players to play for their clubs in this weekend’s TNM Super League games.
Gunda said the Flames will regroup on Monday ahead of their departure for the cup scheduled for the South African town of Rustenburg.
Malawi will kick start the Cosafa campaign against Tanzania on June 25 at Moruleng Stadium in a Group B clash. The group also comprises Mauritius and Angola.
Meanwhile, Gunda said Fam will hold an extra ordinary general meeting (EGM) tomorrow at Mpira Village in Blantyre.
The EGM will, among other things, review Fifa Under- 16 League, women’s football and the participation of the senior and junior teams in Cosafa tournaments.
“We normally meet quarterly every year,” Gunda said.
