Fleetwood Haiya to unveil manifesto Saturday
Super League of Malawi (Sulom) presidential candidate Fleetwood Haiya is expected to launch his manifesto at Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe Saturday evening.
The league governing body will go to polls on February 25 at its elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Mangochi District.
Haiya is challenging incumbent Sulom president Tiya Somba- Banda.
After declaring his interest recently, Haiya said he wants to transform domestic league into a professional entity.
“It is evident that our league is devoid of effective organisation and sound administration, lack a clear road map, efficiency and commercial acumen,” he said.
Somba-Banda, who was elected Sulom president unopposed during the 2019 election in Salima, was reluctant to comment on the matter yesterday.
But recently he indicated that he had some unfinished business.
The battle for the Sulom presidency is expected to be intense than two previous elections.
Meanwhile, former Mighty Mukuru Wanderers General Secretary David Kanyenda has joined the race for Sulom vice presidency.
This means three people have expressed interest to contest for position after incumbent vice president Gilbert Mitawa already declared his interest to seek re-election while former Silver Strikers general secretary Mike Tembo expressed intent to contest.
Kanyenda confirmed the development Friday. “Some clubs approached me to contest for the vice presidency. They assured me that they will support me. Let us wait for the nomination process,” Kanyenda said.
Former Silver Chief Executive Officer Thokozani Chimbali is challenging incumbent Sulom General Secretary Williams Banda while Malinda Chinyama and Allie Mwachande are vying for the post of treasurer.
Blue Eagles vice General Secretary Solomon Gomezgani Mchawi will contest for the position of legal adviser.
The nomination process is expected to be closed Saturday.
