Flora Suya finally stars in Zuba

The country’s renowned actress and filmmaker Flora Suya is making strides in her acting career as she has made it in the cast of popular soap on Zambezi Magic Zuba.

Zuba is one of the most followed on Zambezi Magic on DStv and has captured the attention of people because in delves into day-to-day stories happening in the society.

Suya, who is the brains behind Spouses and Workmates, soapie that beams on Times Television, said Tuesday she was happy to play a role in Zuba.

The actress has just returned from shooting in Zambia and has played in three episodes.

“The director hinted that there will be more episodes and so I am looking forward to doing my best,” she said.

The award-winning actress said she found herself a spot in Zuba after a friend sent her an email address of one of the producers.

“They were looking for a Malawian girl to act and I shared it with some actresses. I sent the director my resume and he said then that he would come back. A few weeks later, he sent me a script and I was auditioned through zoom,” Suya said.

The actress who has played lead roles in Shemu Joyah’s award winning movies – The Last Fishing Boat and Seasons of A Life-said she was told that they had also auditioned other actresses and that, out of the list, they shortlisted two.

“I found out that out of the two shortlisted, one was me. We had to wait for another week before getting a message that I had been picked for the role,” Suya said.

In the soapie, Suya is playing Kwasausya.

“She is a designer and former model. She is Joshua’s new girlfriend from Malawi. They met at one of her fashion shows and takes her to Zambia to partner in a fashion business,” she said.

Suya, who in the past also starred in a Zambia movie titled Chenda, said two episodes have already been shown.

“With two already shown, there is one remaining but, as I have indicated, the director said there are more episodes coming. It is a good experience to star in a soapie which is popular,” she said.
