The relationship between FMB and Mpingwe Sports Club continues to grow stronger after the bank increased its sponsorship for Mpingwe T20 knockout tournament from K2.5 million to K3 million.

Ironically, FMB started supporting the tournament at K1 million before increasing it to K2 million two years ago and then K2.5 million last year.

FMB Head of Marketing, Sylvia Nankwenya-Mataka, said they decided to increase the sponsorship because of the strides the competition had made.

This year’s tournament will attract 16 teams, five more than the previous year.

“It is without doubt that our sponsorship has played a crucial role to help the development of the sport. Last year, we had 10 teams but this year 16 teams will be taking part and this is really commendable,” she said.

Mpingwe Sports Club Executive Board Member and Sports Director, Abdul Wahab Jagot, who was accompanied by Mpingwe Sports Club Executive Director, Makbul Latif, said FMB’s gesture was timely and commendable.

“We thank FMB for helping us revive the sport. We have been working very hard to develop the game and we are in the direction. Ever since FMB started supporting us, we have registered massive growth in terms of both teams’ participation and supporters’ attendance during games,” he said.

Jagot said they plan to run the knockout tournament for a month.

FMB is well known for supporting different sport codes such as hockey, rugby and football.
