FMB has hyped up the forthcoming Under-20 Junior Football League national finals after presenting uniforms, valued at K1.5 million, to the finalists.
The two-day finals kick off tomorrow at Mulanje Park Stadium where Griffin Young Stars, Mathambi (Southern Region), Sanwecka (Northern Region) and Silver Strikers Youth (Central Region) will battle it out starting from the semi-finals.
FMB Head of Marketing, Sylvia Mataka, presented the kits to the teams and organisers, National Youth Football Association (NYFA) officials, at the bank’s headquarters in Blantyre Wednesday.
Mataka said their eight-year sponsorship has been exciting as the league has produced top players for clubs and country.
“From three districts eight years ago, we have now grown to 12 districts. From K4 million sponsorship, we have now hit K24 million.
“It has been a remarkable journey because we have bridged the gap that was there. We are providing a catchment area for Super League teams, national teams as well as international teams because most of our products have graduated to that level,” she said.
Football Association of Malawi General Secretary, Alfred Gunda, hailed FMB for supporting grassroots football.
“FMB has been more than a partner. If you look at some of the names in the national team, you begin to realise the impact of FMB’s sponsorship. Some of the league’s products are now professionals [foreign-based players] while others are members of our national teams at different levels,” he said.
