FMB League re-launched
First Merchant Bank (FMB) Head of Branch Banking, Patrick Kabambe, has said their hike of the Under-20 Football League sponsorship from K24 million to K30 million is aimed at giving more youths an opportunity to gain exposure.
Kabambe made the remarks during the re-launch of the league at Salima Community Centre Ground on Saturday.
“This is the 10th year we have been sponsoring the tournament and we will continue. This year, we have added two districts of Salima and Nkhotakota. Our plans are to ensure that this tournament becomes fully national, thereby giving more young people a platform to expose their talent,” Kabambe said.
Taking his turn, Minister of Labour, Youth, Sports and Manpower Development, Francis Kasaila, said the tournament would play a pivotal role in unearthing raw talent in the country.
“We need more of these tournaments for the promotion of grassroots talent, which remains untapped. This talent might be useful to our national teams in future. We encourage other companies to emulate the good example, which FMB has set,” Kasaila said while also urging the corporate world to invest in sports infrastructure.
