Southern Region Volleyball League (SRVL) General Secretary, Martin Hausi, has hailed FMB for sponsoring a volleyball tournament over the weekend in Blantyre.
Hausi said the tournament would help teams in the region to prepare better for two national competitions, which Volleyball Association of Malawi will organise before the end of the year.
“The competition has helped teams to ensure that their players are in good shape ahead of the two national tournaments. We did well as a region in the last national event in Lilongwe and we want to continue with the good performance. Therefore, FMB has done us a big favour by sponsoring this tournament,” he said.
FMB Marketing Manager, Widdy Nsona, said they were determined to lift the profile of volleyball through the sponsorship.
During the tournament, Thunders and Veterans were crowned kings in the competitive and socials categories, respectively.
Thunders beat Poly Troopers 3-2 in the final match whereas Veterans, featuring the likes of international volleyball referee, Khuma Kauwa, and SRVL Fixtures Secretary, James Mangani, scraped through after defeating RBM Socials 2-1.
In the socials’ category, winners Veterans received gold medals and K50,000 with silver medals and K30,000 going to RBM for their runners-up slot.
